First of all, I was surprised to find out that you had to be on disability for two years before you even qualified for Medicare. So not fair. So last year when I first qualified I did a lot of research. I found out if you got a Medicare suppliment and prescription plan it paid better. Well, I talked to several insurance people and the only ones that the suppliment works better for is if you qualify for Medicare because of age not disability. They told me they charge disabled people lots more because we cost them lots more. The cheapest I could find was over five hundred a month. So, then I looked into advantage plans. They don't pay as well, but much better than just having Medicare alone. In the middle of 2008 they stopped covering my pain medication because it costs too much. I have tried many different cheaper meds that didn't work as well. Now, it is that time of year to sign up again and I'm looking really hard to find an advantage plan that will cover my pain meds. I feel it is discrimination for the Medicare suppliment companies to charge disabled people more. Most people on disability can't afford their premiems. I can't afford my meds without insurance. Purdue does help people with their meds if they don't have Medicare so no help there either. Does anybody know of a Medicare advantage plan that covers Oxycontin? I can't get out of bed without my meds. I've had five back surgeries and two nerve releases in my left leg. Because of the back surgeries I have scar tissue wrapped around the nerve roots in my lower back that causes severe left leg pain along with my back pain. I'm very thankful for the disability and Medicare or I would be homeless. i just need to be able to pay for my meds. Scooter

I also had to wait for 2 years, but fortunately my husband has insurance. Still, our out of pocket was 10 grand last year. We are fortunate to find that, yes, medicare supplements do cost a little more for disability, but I got one for $140 something through Blue Cross BlueShield, also a med supplement for $34 dollars a month that covers my oxycotin for $4.00. I think it depends on where you live. AARP wouldn't even talk to me. Hope this helps
