My mother is who is 78 years old and is now living in a nursing home due to diabetic neuropathy is being considered for the morphine pump. The doctor is concerned about all the pain meds she has been taking over the years and the increase in the dosage to get her comfortable. Diabetic neuropathy affects the feet and legs that has caused her feet and legs to swell, turn red with fever and sores. She can barely walk and the pain is just unbearable now.
So my question is: Is the morphine pump used just for back injurie or other uncontrollable pain problems?
