A couple of months back I wrote a post discussing the concerns I and many others have regarding the return of severe gastrointestinal side effects as a result of the increasing use of the so-called traditional anti-inflammatories. This is of course to be expected due to the fears so many patients ...
  1. Bring back Vioxx!

I was doing so well on Vioxx until lawyers stepped in and announced that Vioxx "doubled" cardiovascular risks.  Big Deal!  1% to 2%.  I have a healthy diet, don't smoke, or have HTN or diabetes.

With NSAIDS I have developed GERD, severe epigastric pain, duodenal ulcers, and erosive esophagitis partially controlled by Prilosec 20 BID.

I can get oxycontin (which I hate), but not Vioxx.  It makes no sense.

Why don't you just take a bullet, it will work faster. vIOXX is or was the worse of the bunch, backed by its company, MURK. This drug killed many and maimed more. Strokes, Heart attacks, pulmanary elbolisms, etc....   How could you ever say that, or at least put it up on a Blog.

  2. celebrex vs. Mobic

I have been seeing a pain management specialist for about 5 yrs. I have scoliosis, DDD, with left leg radiculopathy and chronic left hip bursitis. About 6 yrs ago a doctor prescribed Celebrex and I had a migraine that lasted about 2 1/2 weeks when I quit the Celebrex. I also used to take a lot of ibuprofen until it wasn't helping much and I had stomach pains with what seemed like irritable bowel. The stomach and bowel problems got much better when I quit taking the ibuprofen. I do take 81 mg ASA daily and in November had an EGD (pre-op requirement for lap-band surgery) and it showed that I had a small hiatal hernia, GERD, and chonic, benign gastritis. The only time the gastritis bothers me is when I have coffee or wine. I am curious about your concerns about GI problems with ASA therapy. I was told that if I took only 81 mg and that if it was coated I shouldn't have to worry. Any suggestions about a replacement for Celebrex. My doctor wanted to put me on Mobic and I thought that he was crazy. Nothing like turning my stomache into hamburger. I would appreciate your opinion, thanks.
