Chronic Pain is a serious condition, from which relief is sought through various treatments. While medications are a popular solution, the downside is that opioid medications can lead to addiction. However, addiction is relatively rare and often coincides with a genetic predisposition for such. The more typical outcome is a physical dependence, which is not the same as addiction. Nevertheless, patients and doctors are often afraid to take or prescribe opioid medications because of the misunderstanding about the addiction risk.
