Who is at Risk for chronic pain? Due to the myriad conditions that could fall under this label, there is no one single, identifiable risk factor. However, it is known that women are more prone to fibromyalgia than men; TMJ is similar in that it affects more women than men. New studies are also showing that some chronic pain conditions can be the product of childhood abuse, where the system has been "shocked" and never fully recovers.
