Since I don't know what all you may have tried already, I'll give you a couple of links to more information about TMJ treatment options. The first link is for several options beyond self-care. You may have tried some, if not all, of these: http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pain/tmj/treatment-193156-5.html
Here is a link to information about different surgeries that can be done for TMJ:

I feel sure there are people with TMJ who have filed for disability. I know one lady who is on disability that has TMJ, but she also has other physical problems like fibromyalgia as well and I'm not sure what her award was based on. Ultimately, in order to get disability, you have to prove that you cannot do any kind of work on a regular basis. If you're considering filing for Social Security Disability, here's an article that will help you know what to expect: Applying for Social Security Disability

Thank you for your information links. I have had an arthroscopic surgery on right side of jaw. I wear an appliance 24/7 except to eat. I am restricted to eating soft foods. I have also had injections in the jaw/head for the antiinflamation. This new dentist is talking botox for the next step and I don't want to go there. I don't want to have disc replacement surgery, as I have heard many bad things can happen. I am now at a point I am just talking with my primary physician to go from here. He started me on a different medication, for nerve pain and that seems to be helping, although the left side of my jaw is now giving me problems after 20+ years of pain with my right side. I also get the burning feeling all the way down my right arm and side of my neck. Any other information you might be able to suggest would be most appreciated. Again thank you...Deb Evans
