Hello, this morning I woke up to a sharp stabbing pain on the right side of my head. I have never experienced anything like it before and it happens every few minutes, sometimes constantly. I have been bedridden all day due to the fact that these quick pains sometimes make me stop what I am doing. They last around 5 seconds. I am 14 years old and not sure what this could be. sincerely, Vivian.
It's possible that these pains you're having are ice pick headaches. You can read more about them in Ice Pick Headaches - The Basics .
Please tell your parents about these headaches and ask them to take you to the doctor. Unexplained headaches should always be checked out. Nobody can tell you through the Internet what's causing them. The only person who can do that is a doctor, after he or she examines you in person.
Good luck, John Claude Krusz and Teri Robert

Full Question: My wife suffers from Migraines. She is 19, nonsmoker and nondrinker. Recently (for a little over a week now) she has started complaining of severe and sharp head pains and nausea. She said that it was unlike any pain that she has previously had. She also has problems with severe head pains while trying to have a bowel movement, as she has to strain very hard to do so lately. Tonight was the first time her severe head pains have turned into throbbing pains and from there they went back and forth, until she had to take some medicine for Migraine pains. All of this started, like I said, a little over a week ago, right after she had a few bad Migraines almost back to back (about 3 in roughly 2 weeks). My question is, can her severe pains be caused from Migraines and can that also cause her to have those pains while straining to have a bowel movement? Can an overabundance of stress cause this? I hope you can help to shed some light on this subject for me. Thank You, James. &...
I have Intermittent sharp pain on left side of my head. The pain is left side, near back of head. It started 6 days ago, I have tried several over counter meds. Excedrin Migraine, to BC Powders. Nothing has worked.
I have made appointment with my Doctor, next week. What do you think this pain could be. I have never suffered with Migraine Head aches before. Thank You, Joann.
The pain you describe could be any number of things. You don't mention how long the pain lasts. If it lasts just seconds, it could be ice pick headaches, but only your own doctor will be able to confirm a diagnosis. You can find some information on ice pick headaches in Ice Pick Headaches - The Basics .
Are you having any other symptoms? If not, these are unlikely to be Migraines because Migraines have other symptoms in addition to head pain. See Anatomy of a Migraine for more infor...
