Q: I'm living with cronic pain and I want my life back that it took away from me

Hi! I am a 48 year old woman whose body hurts all the time, I have 2 bad disc in back/neck, my feet hurt always, my legs hurt alot and my shoulders hurt alot too.  I"ve been diagnoised with fibromyalga. This started in 1994. I've went to pyhsical therapy, pain clinic (which said couldn't help because I have a Factor VIII Defeceincy) made no since to me! My dr's seem to just give up on me. One Dr. actually dropped me as a patient by certified mail. All I want is not to hurt all the time. I have 4 brothers and sisters and they have none of these problems. I have no life because I hurt all the time, I've tried the walking, bike, excersing which just makes it seem worse than before the workouts. I just would like some answers and definetly some help to get relief from all this pain.

Hang in there, Deb. I, too, have tried all the exercise techniques, etc. to no avail. I recently started scuba diving with a friend and discovered that even just swimming in the (heated) pool makes my whole body feel better. With a wetsuit, I can engage in a sport that doesn't make me pay for it later. I know, I shunned the thought of a pool workout, too, but I promise... once you are in the water, other than the dorky scuba divers trying to figure out how not to suck water into their lungs, no one cares what you look like or how fast/slow you swim.

I wish I had better recommendations for pain control, but I've tried a lot of those, too and nothing seems to work as well as tylenol, heat and rest... aleve for inflammation sometimes. A hot tub does wonders.

Hang in there...

I have simular but differnt problems. I do have cronic pain. I am in PT getting TENS and Ultra sound and stretches. I like the part about swimming as I found that to be helpful as well. As for Aqua-therapy as this would give you pool exercies in a heated pool.

There is no quick simple answer to a cronic pain. You may have to try different PT places and even switch MD's till you find the right combination that works for you.

I have a few more years on you and have had some very bad times with my problems.. As questions, get your medical reports on all tests and MD reports so if you do go  to another MD you'll have all your records for review.

Another general option might be to find a support group on line or locally to you.. as other people going through the same problems can sometimes suggest tips or recommed PT or MD's that that when through for simular problems.

I`ve been diagnoised with fibromyalgia also, several years ago. Along with sever arthritis and a few other things that could be life threatening. The real problem is government intervention with doctor/patient relationships. What every preson should do is get involved with what is going on-MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!! This is supposed to be the home of the free, if you and your doctor are not free to get your problem under control, this is surely NOT the home of the free.
