Q: depression medicines used for pain management

Can anyone offer feedback about Cymbalta or Wellbutrin for treatment of nerve pain?  I am no longer getting any relief from opiod pain meds and had no success with Lyrica.  I have nerve damage and disc degeneration and have been dealing with chronic pain for six years, two surgeries ago.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Antidepressants can be effective for pain relief.  However, a new study has shown that combining an antidepressant with an anticonvulsant (like Lyrica or Neurontin) is more effective for nerve pain (neuropathy) than either drug by itself.  Here's a link to an article about the study:  http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2009/09/29/chronic-pain-neuropathic-drugs.html
