I don't know about the suing part, a Doctor stopping your medications is not a valid reason for litigation, but why did he stop your medication? Did he give you a valid reason? If he is not willing to treat your condition then you need to find a new Doctor, or talk to this one and ask him why he did what he did.

because i took a uruine test and the pain meds did not show up in the result, i called the lab and they said that this happens alot the testing machine  does not always pick up meds in the test, he is a very stubben doctor and i walked out of his office,!!my other doctors are aware of him,(the internist)type doctors who checked my pancrease several times,i had the crontic condition since 1989 and started taking pain meds around 1995 --doug

Doug,

Can you ask the Doctor to run a blood test instead of urine test, or is he so harsh that would not even go there? I guess you are going to have to find a new PM Doc. It is sad that a lot of patients in chronic pain have to put up with this type of abuse and unfair treatment, I am lucky to have a Doctor that does not believe in medication contracts. He only takes people into his office that come with referrals from other Doc's, never any Joe from the streets, so maybe that is why he doesn't require contracts, but either way, you need to find yourself a Pain management Doc as soon as possible. Good luck with your search, and I hope that you can talk your old Doc into doing a blood test to prove that you are taking your medications as directed.

Hello Doug,

Did you ever find a doctor atleast within an hour of your home?  I have the same problem and have had to go over to New Hampshire for an progressive doctor.

I just noticed in your reply to someone else that you said you are lucky to have a doctor that does not believe in medication contracts.  Sounds like you like your doctor.  I have had chronice pain for the last 4 years.  Migraines for more than 20 years.  Have tried over 30 meds and several procedures, injections - you name it.  I live in Washington State.  Where do you live and would your doctor be taking new patients?  My doctor would refer.Tongue out

I would try to find a doctor in a different town. The pain management doctors in my town aren't taking new patients so people are going out of town. A friend of mine has to travel four hours to his doctor. Good luck. Scooter

Hello, Scooter & Dougie + others:

I ran across this message board in sure of other solutions to chronic pain. I have read everbody's e-mail & answers, it seems we all have the same thing in common. Lack of PM dr's or knowlegable PM's for our conditions along with no doctors at all in our states. I want to say one thing, that I do not feel alone now. The synosis of my story is: I live in Vermont, close to a hospital (that I thought understood the downfalls of chronic pain)provides no care or very little care just to get me out of the ER Room. In my area there are no Pain Mgmt clinics or Dr's, I would have to drive a min of 2 hours to a satilite office w/o guarntee of help.

My Primary Med is very little atuned to chronic pain, I have had to really try to educate him along with arguing re: medicines. My Dr. threatens me that he can take away my pain meds anytime if he feels I am not following his directions. He also has me on a contract to only use one pharmacy to dispense my meds. Why? He is assuming that I hop Pharmacists(due to the stores messing up my medicine and the same store keeping old Rx's open on their computer causing my file to look like I am driving around filling my med's!) even though my Insurance Comp monitors the fill dates. BUT, the first and main reason is I am automatically acused of being addicted to my meds!. I find it disgracing onto of assuming I am a liar. The dr.'s are more concerned about the RX Drug problem in America, all those who abuse RX's. So, I am being punished by my Dr on a personal level and being lumped into a group people who really do have a drug addiction! Lessons learned: Even if you decide to take that long drive into a city with more medical selections, you are not promised help;Harassed by local community of doing something you are not and last not even receiving the proper care. Partial solution: educate yourself of your condition and the types of meds ( make sure the dr is giving you the right rx); use the internet to make your dr to give you your meds along with saying all other dr.s are full patient load.      Thank you---PurpleMom 3/24/10.

I agree I also live in VT. and have chronic pain have never been addicted to any drugs. I haven't been able to find a single dr to help I can't even get a damm asprin out of these people. It sure seems that in this area if you are a drug addict or a criminal that you can get all the pain meds you need. How do i know this for the last three years when I can't bear the pain anymore I have to buy my meds on the street at very inflated prices. This really pisses me off as it indangers my life I'am breaking the law and it strains my already streached budget.WTF.do I got to do start shooting herion or rob a bank maybe sucide I've thought of all them I hate needles, jail and to stubborn to give up. The worst part of it is I've been to three different dr.in two states 3 hospitals and got three different things wrong with me the last one wants exploratory surgery. My pain is so bad right now I guess I have no choice but to let this butcher cut my guts out been through 2 surgerys already in the past 10 years with very little results and I still don't know why I'am so sick and in pain all the time.I've been on so many steroids that I don't dare take anymore as they make me so mean I don't even like myself I'am afraid I'll actually kill someone and they don't work for me why take meds that don't help.Three years ago I was so sick one day I could'nt even get out of bed a friend of my daughters offered me a half of a bute.I took it a f--cking miracle happened my pain was gone I was up and swept and mopped three flights of stairs 2 hrs after I took it they were $ 10.00 each at that time which sucks but was in my budget range now there $ 25.00 each which is'nt.I went back to work made alot of extra cash doing odd jobs and scrapping the problem I spent it all to by pain meds so I could work.I went to a shrink last month was very truthful she kicked me out said I need intensive drug treatment at quitting time I went there last year for two months trying to get on a bute program they fired the dr.I quit why go to someplace that won't help me get the pain meds I need to function on a daily basis. So I'am suffering very badly again laying in bed for days not being able to function oh and coming off these meds after taking them for 3 years was complete hell.So why go back on them cause they actually work for my chroans diease or wtf ever is wrong with me I would much rather take them than have another worthless operation. The best part if I do have the operation again I'll be equiped with a shitbag for the rest of my life a wonderful thought haveing my asshole sewed shut.I'am very sorry I don't mean to rant and rave I'am very angry that I can't get the only med that has ever helped me feel good enough to go back to work everyday and I have to buy them on the streets from junkies who really don't need them if they did they would not be selling them to me so they can buy CRACK. I sure hope a dr reads this who actually gives a shit also maybe they should try this med on some people who are really sick like me cause it works wonderful for Chroans if thats what I have. My name is Don phone is 802-683-6218 in the Rutland area vt. If your a dr. and can help please call if you just want to argue please don't call as I'am to sick for that bullshit if you think you can help please call  Thanks for reading forgive the spelling God Bless Don
