Q: Why do my feet hurt?

When I sit down for any amount of time, at least 5 minutes and get back up I can barely walk. My feet hurt, my whole foot both of them and I can barely put weight on them and they feel kind of stiff when this is happening.  I have asked the doctor and they didn't do any test but said it was because of being over weight but i have always been over weight my whole life so i don't know what is wrong with them.  i really feel like i'm old but i am only 27 and once i stand up for a little while i'm fine. so what could this be? And I am a stay at home mom so I'm not on my feet at work all day or anything.

I think you definitely need to see another doctor. You might consider seeing a podiatrist so that he/she can rule out any structural issues. Foot pain after sitting can be caused by plantar fasciitis. You could have a medical condition that affects circulation in the feet. Diabetes, for instance, often results in foot problems. In any case, dismissing these kind of severe symptoms simply because you are overweight is not helpful.

Health Central has a nice section on foot pain.

I hope you can get a second opinion.

I want to thank you for your advice.  but i also have a question about your comment.  do you have to be a diabetic to have planter fascitis because i was tested for diabeties and i am not diabetic.  But i also have back pain such as my back locking up for no reason and stiffening.  Could this be linked together?  I know that i am over weight but not severly i weigh 240 and i'm 5'6 but i have been around 200 pounds since i was 17 years old.

I totally understand what you mean this morning after my man working all night had to stay up with our kid for a bit cuz I was having such bad muscle spasms in my knees and ankles and feet.  I could not walk.  I was a little thing till I was 15 they put me on steroids and I blew up.  After I had my daughter I gained 200 pounds in 3 months.  I weighed over 450.  I recently had a reaction to a med and lost 100 pounds in 3 days.  But now that I am losing weight I am having even more problems.  You know your body more than anyone else.  Find a doctor who believes and wants to help you.  I hope you feel better!

I am having similar symptoms but without the back pain. I am the same size but diabetes run in my family but I have bee tested but it is not that.  I drive a lot for my job but I can barely walk at times and have pain when I get out of bed.  Unfortunately I can afford insurance so I am forced to either buy into a plan or try to find out through this metod to resolve this issue.  I think that I may try the change in shoes and buy insoles.
