Topics:Chronic Pain

Im someone who lives with very bad CHRONIC PAIN EVERY second of every minute of every day (for past 20yrs).I have had many leg surgeries (Limb Lengthening)20yrs ago.,I am 35 now,I was born a dwarf.I suffer pain in my legs, hips, knees, feet.I also, suffer with Lung Disease (SARCOIDOSIS),and depression, ptsd, anxiety, bpd. To name a few.Anyways,I see a PAIN CLINIC,on a regular basis for about 5 yrs now.I had a wonderful Dr,who recently has relocated (and is/has retired). He was WONDERFUL.Always willing to try new meds,or help me any way he could to make/keep me comfortable with pain. But he retired.I see a different Dr now,he isnt very helpful. He's kept me on the same pain meds my former dr had me on.(about 1.5yrs now). Not willing to change,or try new doses,or new meds. But this newer Dr,has taken PERSONAL LEAVE for unknown length of time.He has a replacement Dr.,who is MORE helpful, and has me on a 3rd pain med mix.Nice guy.I like him.But Im still in BAD PAIN.Im not an opiod addict,i am however,OPIOD DEPENDENT,since Ive been on pain meds for about 4yrs now.STRONG Opoids. But,Ive now been on same meds for a couple years, and they arent helping anymore.I want my DR to try something else,Im in SERIOUS PAIN again. My meds only take edge off.Im on a HIGH dose.Dr prescribed. But the meds are not helping anymore. Its painful for me to walk, stand, sit (leg surgery  pain).Breathing pain(lung disease). I walk like Im 80 yrs old.Im only 35.I know I will have to taper off,if I try something new,but no one wants to help me anymore.I cant stand the pain anymore,im considering SUICIDE.Its THAT BAD.Why cant my DR's help?I need something stronger obviously..but why wont they try something new?WHY WONT THEY HELP ME?I am on Pain meds-Hydromorphone 8mg 6-8day,Hydromorph Contin 12mgs 3/day,and Oxycocet 5/325-4/day.The only one that helps best is the 1st dose of the day.The pain is worst at night, and when its wet outside.Dampness kills my legs and hurts my Lungs-my Lung Disease gets bad,and at night, hurts to breathe, cant sleep well,or get comfortable.I am in SO MUCH PAIN,and Im on strong OPIODS,what do I DO?What can the Dr.s do next?Im Opiod dependent. Please help Im on my last hope.Im close to giving up,and ending my life to stop the PAIN.But I know they dont believe that Im in SO much pain still, even being on SO much Opiods. But I AM!I hurt every second of every day. What can they do for me?

Hi, I just read your plea for help. I am not giving you an answer, but I am telling you I can relate, & feel for you. I too suffer constantly, since an orthopedic surgeon seriously screwed up my lumbar spine, & because of that my neck has been left untreated, & is giving me fits now too. My surgery was 2 years ago. I deal with all of the same "What Next?" isues you do. It just seems in America oxycontin is the top of the food chain of pain meds. I cannot believe there isn't anything else out there either. In Virginia, the DEA is constantly harrassing the docs who write these scripts, making finding one who is even willing a battle. I know how you feel about suicide too, because just how much is a person supposed to bear?

Have you looked into a pain implant by any chance? I went for a consult for that because I am at the end of my rope with limited relief from pain with the "strong" meds we take, & I was actually only told about 1 kind of implant, which is a neurostimulator. But there are several types of these implants you should look into. I live basically alone, so it wasn't an option for me because there is a trial period first, & a body needs help, serious help while in the discovery process & after implantation. So, maybe that is something you should check out. I read a story on someone who was also at suicide level pain, had the implant & was 100% better. It was JERRY LEWIS! All those years of physical comedy had wrecked him- but it worked for him after he suffered tremendously for years.

I hope this may be an option for you. And I hope to God that all these orthopedic surgeons that keep freewheeling maiming us patients will someday be brought to justice. But that's ANOTHER whole issue itself. Undecided

I joined a back surgery support group on Facebook too, & met some other people who deal with this everyday too, & that helps, just having somebody speak "Our" language. So, try a social networking site & see if that helps. It helped me alot!

Well, don't know if I helped you at all, but just know you aren't alone in this, there are WAY too many of us in the same situation to feel alone.

I wish you luck & Godspeed in finding a solution.

Take care,

Capri

Thankyou Capri,

Its nice to talk to people who can understand, and can give advice. Its nice to hear others that are at a breaking point sometimes too, like me. The OXYCONTIN issues are going on here too.Not so much a shortage, but its just a popular pain reliever and popular street drug too.I have tried many different pain pills.I have tried the NERVE BLOCKS too.As well as the FENTANYL PATCH.I honestly found them useless to me.I got NO RELIEF whatsoever. The only meds i have gotten any sort of relief from are the ones I am on now...my 1st Pain Dr,tried me on others, but I always ended up back to Hydromorphone, and Oxycocet..Those are they only ones that have worked well. But now,Im slowly hurting more and more...and more.To a breaking point.I would love to try the implants,or methadone...something.I cant take living in pain every second of every day and getting no relief.Thankyou for your input, and your comment. I wish you get through this too. Take care,

I can identify with you and my heart goes out to you.  I have scoliosis and severe peripheral neuropathy (inherited).  I almost died from pnuemonia a couple of years ago.  Although you are on an assortment of powerful opiates, it strikes me that the dosages aren't all that high for such misery.  I don't know your body weight or tolerance.  I've found that for most neuropathies, opiates don't actually work with the exception of methadone manufactured in the U.S.  This was explained to me as a peculiarity of formulation by my pain doc.  A FORTUNATE peculiarity.  I've had dilauidid and oxycontin and they didn't work (to my surprise and dismay).  Your pain may respond more to methadone - try it.  Also, have you tried nerve ablations (radio frequency) or nerve block shots?  You may respond to a pain med pump implant.  You mention damp weather...have you had any physical therapy?  High dosage Lyrica has helped me as well.  They are finding this helps many people...with anxiety and sleep problems too.  Sounds like you have anxiety and depression to go with your pain.  Lord, don't kill yourself!  Get help...tell someone you feel this way.  Get more opinions.  Good luck.

Hello i just read ur story,i have had 2 Rotatorcuff opperations. And both have a negitive effect on my life.My older Brother has just had his lower back opperated on and he is having a tough time with his meds also/Im on 60mg's of Methadone and it seems to help out with my pain, but most days im ready to chop my arm off!0!"kiddin".My brother is on "OPANA"40mg and Magnaset 10mgs and it seems to help but then he goes into a long period of pain.Well i just wantd to tell u about the Opana it has not ben used latley cause it is an older Opiate than Oxy's.Alot stronger 12hrs.Its is like an oxy but its life seems to be alot longer.well i hope you figure out something with your pain, cause it's a tuff thing to go thru, especially when your just want to live your life tha way you lived before!Another option is the Fentanyl Patches,i was on those as soon as i got out of the hospital. And they worked great. And my brother had Actique, its a lollypop."serious"!!Well beast of luck!

Im only 5'0",average weight.I had physical therapy years ago,but its too painful.I have pain from just walking.I love swimming, but its not free here.or covered under Disability.Im on a fixed Disability income. Its hard.Im a 35yr old widow.

What do you mean when you say that your brother,on OPANA and Magnaset, they help but he goes into a longer period of pain?

Hi ' Do not try methadone because your tolerance will be off

the charts!!! I was on 130 mg a day for 12 years and started at 25mg and ended at 130 mg a day and got no relief!!! Clinics are the places that drug up people on methadone.

and do not tell you what a living hell it is. I Got off of it 3 years ago cold turkey and it was 18 months till I was done detoxing!!!!!!! Go with oxymorphone by far and then Morphine because they are God's big PAIN KILLERS and fentanyl did not work for you

so it time to stop the oxycodone / Hydromorphone  /Fentanyl and remember OXYMORPHONE and MORPHINE are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I DO NOT WANT YOU TO kill yourself and this is the best answers I can give you! I am on 30 MG oxycodone and

6 Mg Xanax daily and it works for me ! THANK GOD!!! NO METHADONE it was the biggest mistake of my life!!!!!!!!Take Care always"  Bill

You are not addicted no matter who tells you are especially ass hole Doctors with a supreme God complex which is about 80% of them You have a right to cry out and ask whats next. I feel for you being so young,I am 53 years old and I have been in chronic pain since I was 38 and now it has gotten worse. I have few friends and my wife is only relative who does not scold me for my narcotic pain meds because of our contries stupid Drug War has been declared on its citizens cause they can't defeat prehistoic rebels in south america or Afganiastan. I am sorry for your pain I feel for you personally. I know my comments won't help but I have said them anyway. May God heal you instead of me and maybe I will get my wings early, real early I pray because I have no cure, I have no more hope. I don't want anymore advice just the end please.
