Hello, was wondering if anyone else has or is going thru what I am, I have had 3 major back surgeries due to a near death car accident, its been since 2004 my last back surgery. It was always my lower back and extremeties that always hurt so bad(sciatic nerve) but recently I am having terrible upper back and neck pain with shooting pain in my arms and hands waking me up at night. I do have size DD breasts and someone told me a reduction would probably help with this as it is like toting around 2 5lb sacks of flour every day. Does anyone else go thru this or had a surgery to help? Any info would be so much appreciated, tired of this!!

I have neck and shoulder pain, however I am not a DD. I have a physical therapist massage the area once a week and also my dr. prescribed me vicodin which I am ready to get done with. I have to get an MRI in January to see what is in there. My pain shoots down my back on the left side, doesn't seem to affect my arms but it radiates behind my shoulder blade.

Hope you've insisted on an MRI of your cervical spine! And a realy good Doctor. Several years ago I lifted something improperly (it wasn't heavy) trying to make a long story short... Several workmans comp. Dr's, and my own Neurologist & Neurosurgeon Treated me like I was lying or trying to fake an injury. I was so very lucky, My normal family physician had known me for over 10 yrs. He knew I wasn't faking or lying, He sent me too a Neurosurgeon in a larger city, That Dr. ordered a new Xray & MRI which showed I had blown one of the disk in my neck. When the disk ruptured it went forward putting pressure on my spinal chord, They also saw bone spurs. However, I didn't appear to have the typical symptoms of nerve root intrapment which would cause pain in the deltoid muscle, radiating down my arm, along with numbness and muscle-atrophy. Instead I had extreme Pain in my neck & upper back, The pain was worse just to the left of my spine and went under my shoulder blade. I was on alot of pain meds and prednisone, But the pain was still unbearable. It took 1&1/2yrs to get the needed surgury, It helped tremendously. I guess I'll never be 100%, But for me it literally made the difference between being in unbearable pain 24 hrs a day even with several very strong pain medicines, including nerve block type injections (mylocain&kenolog)directly into the nerves in my upper back & neck. After surgury I don't take nearly as much medicine and I can do alot of the stuff I did before I first got hurt.

One very important thing.... Not one Doctor Realized the pain in my back was caused by my neck. They all said, "the pain should be in my arm".  But... while in the waiting room at the surgeon's office I was flipping through the monthly medical journal for neuro-surgeons, It was right there in black & white information on cervical spine inguries (symptoms and treatments) it listed all my symptoms, Including the fact that the pain can go down a persons back instead of there arm! But not one of the Doctors Knew that and they still don't. It also said people can injure their spine including neck & upper back just sitting at a computer and turning their head wrong.
