Have your sacrolitic hip joints x-rayed for fusing and fluids, and a blood test to see if you have the HLA-B27 gene. If doctor 20 years ago just said "it's just fusing and will quit hurting after fused", well, hopefully he tested you for Ankylosing Spondylitis. AS for short. Yeah, it quits hurting after fused but movement is lost. He could have started you on medication to slow (doesn't cure) the progresson. My significant other has AS that looking back started in his 20's with hip and lower back pain. He was told at the time it was probably a slipped disk. It wasn't. Since that time, now in his 40's, he has fused all the way up into his neck.
