There are some simple things you can do to perhaps reduce the pain of the attack when it occurs and/or to reduce the frequency of the attacks. Gout occurs when high uric acid levels in the blood cause uric acid crystals to form which then become embedded in the lining of the joints and muscles and cause pain - sometimes lots of it.
The first anti-gout home treatment therapy is reduce your intake of foods that produce uric acid. These are foods with high levels of what are called 'purines' and they include such foods as sarines, anchovies, liver, scallops, peas, etc.
Since high concentrations of uric acid are a big problem you want to drink 10-12 glasses of fluid a day into order to reduce those concentrations - thus preventing the crystals that cause so much pain - from forming.
