Shocklike pain in groin and down back after a blood patch for spinal headache.
I had the test for an implantable pain pump but the day after they pulled the catheter I got a bad spinal headache!! I had to wait the weekend to get a blood patch which was very painful and has left me with shock like pain down my back or in my groin when I move my head! What is going on and when will this end!!
Unfortunately, invasive procedures like spinal injections and catheter placements come with a certain amount of risk. Upon agreeing to have a surgery or procedure, you agreed to accept the risks as explained by the surgeon. That is called consent and consent forms were signed. A spinal leak is definately a risk with any type of spinal tap. As spinal fluid leaks, the patient experiences severe headaches, nausea, and vomiting. Blood patches do patch the leak; but it can take a week for things in the spinal canal to stabilize. Unless, of course, there is an infection (another risk with anything involving needles and knives). Keep in close contact with your doctor, so that complications can be dealt with a quickly as possible.
Next, I guess the question you have to ask yourself is if the pain pump procedure is worth it, considering the complications you have had with the trial. Something to ponder.
