Ampicillin is an antibiotic in the penicillin family.  It is used to treat infection from bacteria.  Some of the types of infections it is used for include ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and E. coli or salmonella, but it may also be used for other types of infections as well.
