A recent study had some interesting findings regarding a gout diet. One important thiing to do if you're overweight is to lose weight; simply being overweight tends to increase uric acid levels - the main problem in gout. Some other suggestions are to drink lots of fluids, drink little or no alcohol, and don't eat alot of meat. The study found that high meat eaters had more gout attacks - why is not exactly clear but it might have some relevance for you since you have a high protein diet.
Other recommendations include:
Stay away from organ meats, sardines, herring, mussels.
Eat low amounts of turkey, veal, bacon, anchovies, liver and salmon.
Don't worry about peas, beans and mushrooms. (They have high purine levels but didn't seem to lead to increased gout attacks).
One of the general prescriptions was just to get yourself in as a good a shape as possible. Good luck with the gout!
