I think I cracked or fractured a rib. Should I go to the doctor or just bandage it up?

I'm not sure how tight to keep the ace bandage and the bruise is getting darker, plus the area around it is swollen. We have a huge deductible on our insurance, so I haven't gone to the doctor, but I know I injured my ribs. I've been told that there isn't anything you can do about broken ribs. I...
