Q: The cruiseship fitness guru touted full body detoxification. Anything to it?

This was not from a perspective of pain reduction, but from liver health, reduction of water stored around fat cells because of all the stored toxins we get from chemicals in our food, the air, skin products, etc. (according to the fitness guy), and general long-term health.  He was selling an algae-based system that would take 90 days to detoxify the body, which he would customize after doing a body composition analysis.  The latter would use an electrode on an ankle, and another on a wrist.

There are so many different kinds of detoxification therapies touted and so few studies done. Personally I think its a shame; I've found light fasts and sauna treatments to be really helpful. I wouldn't know about any one therapy, though - you're basically on your own. My own personal stance when trying therapies like this is to pull back if things get too intense. I've heard stories of people who didn't do that and really suffered afterwards. Good luck.
