Q: Doctors/Nurses/Pharmacy Techs: Brand Name vs Generic Oxycontin

I have been told by 3 doctors that the generic version of Oxycontin is 40 to 60% less effective in the 40mg dose.

I have even tried the generics before being told that and did notice a difference after two weeks of taking them. I then brought that up to my Pain doctor who then informed me he believed that the 40mg dosage of Oxycontin in generic form is much less effective by 40 to 60% and I refuse to go up on my dosage to 80mg generic as I would NOT save any money and am in the "donut hole" in my Medicare Part D coverage.

Because of annuities, I do not qualify for the low income assistance so from May to the end of the year I have to pay a discounted price of $489 a month for 90 Brand Name Oxycontin 40mgs.

I also don't believe the savings is worth the intense pain difference that I noticed. If it saved me a lot of money, I would change to the generic 40mg but I find that the Brand Name works so much more.

I would like to know if any medical professionals agree with this stance/opinion?

If so, what do you base this on?

I've had both my doctors at the Pain Management center I go to tell me this and a CPN.
