Q: I know of a 26 year old man diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. This man is a drug addict who has abused Percocet for many years. I read PKD happens with excess toxins. Any link?

In Canada, it is easy to get oxycontin and he has been abusing oxycontin for many years.

I looked up Polycystic kidney disease on the web and all the sites I checked agreed that it is primarily caused by genetic mutations. Ninety percent of people with this disorder have mutations in one gene. Most of the rest have kidney problems resulting from dialysis.

Thanks for response.  I checked the web as well and there is a lot out there.  I found one article stating that oxycontin can cause kidney disease.  Others say PKD is inherited(which wouldn't be the case here).  With all information on the web, it's hard to be precise.
