Q: My 10 year old son has had chronic stomach pains for 4 months. Tests come up with nothing. Help!!

My 10 year old son has had chronic stomach pains and Diahrea for almost 4 months. It started one weekend in January out of now where.  He has had blood tests, stool samples, an endoscopy and colonoscopy and all tests are coming up negative, but he has had blood in his stool. I've experimented with his diet and don't see a connection there. I've been hearing of other people having the same problem lately. Has anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions? He's been tested for bacterias, chrones and celiac, liver and lyme disease. He's been on antibiotics, mylanta, tums, yogurt, nothing has worked.  He never had stomach issues ever.  He's been a very healthy, happy child.  He was not stressed or depressed.  Suddenly he's sick every day and miserable.  I need help figuring this out.  I must be missing something.  Thank you.

This question is way out of my ball park of expertise but here are some thoughts....Beyond diet experimentation would be actual allergy testing, food allergies are becoming increasingly common in children and can be easily overlooked. An allergy specialist can help you determine if your son has a real food allergy. Another possiblity is a malabsorption syndrome which commonly cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. A common malabsorption syndrome is Celiac Disease which is treated with a gluten-free diet (it takes 3-4 months for initial response to treatment, AND gluten-FREE can be tricky because gluten is even in vitamins).

Keep seeking second opinions because someone will have the answer.

I noticed this was from 2009.  Did you finally figure out what was wrong?  I am going through the same thing with my 13 year old and nothing is helping, I really need some help to figure this out.  There is nothing like your child being in pain and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
