Q: My Dr.'s office asked for a drug test, now they won't prescribe my meds .

Yesterday my Dr.'s office told me I need to come in for a drug test. They called me at 11:30 a.m. and told me I had to be there BY 4:00 p.m. Due to my location at the time of the call and job related issues, it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to get there. I went first thing this morning but was told that because I didn't come in yesterday that my Dr. would no longer prescribe my meds. I have been on this medicine DAILY for over two years. What is going to happen to me when I stop suddenly? They also are going to "red flag" my records saying that I "refused" a drug test. What can I do?

This sounds very strange to me. When I started at me pain mgmt drs (i was already on meds) I had to sign a contract saying i wouldn't get the same type of meds from another dr, and i would agree to random urine tests. In the 7 years that i went there i had 3 requests for urine and it was always when i was already there for a visit. They never asked me to come in for the sole reason of a "drug test". I would ask them why is was so urgent for you to be there at that particular time. Did you call to say you couldn't make it until the next day? If not you should have and they should be understanding about your time situation if you have never had any trouble with them before.
