what kind of TMJ/TN pain medications are out there other than anti convulsives?

I'm in my 30's. I was diaganosed with both in the late teens. I don't see much if any pain relief. I take paxil and was taking tegretol every day. The tegretol makes me weird. I still see the same doctor who diagnosed it. Probally because when you go to a doctor and tell him "my eyelashes hurt" they automatically assume your insane. I've asked the doctor to change the anti-convulsive meds but he doesn't want to. He gives me flexeril for my jaw pain. It doesn't help my pain in a functioning sense of way, but it helps my teenagers because it puts me to sleep. There HAS to be a pain medication out there that I can still have a life with. It's not much of a life being like this.

Although there are no medications specifically approved for TMJ, there are a variety of different medications often used in its treatment.  See "Medications Used to Treat TMJ Disorder" for a list.

Just as with TMJ, there are no medications approved specifically for trigeminal neuralgia.  Medications used off-label to treat TN are anticonvulsants and muscle relaxers.

Hope this was helpful.
