Q: what is the usual dose of naproxen and the maximum dose

There's really no such thing as a "usual" dose for most medications.  Your doctor determines the dosage based on a number of factors, such as age, weight, other medications you are taking, other illnesses or conditions you may have, which particular symptom or illness the medication is being used for, etc.  Another factor considered is the form of the medication, i.e. tablet or capsule, extended release, liquid or injectable.

 

If you'll go to Epocrates.com and type naproxen in the search box, you'll find the minimum and maximum recommended dosages for the various conditions naproxen has been approved by the FDA to treat.

Naproxen comes in 200 mg. pills.  The bottle says take 1, or 2 if one doesn't work.  I've always taken 2, =400 mgs. at once.  I lived with a doc and that's what he always gave me when I asked him to get me a Naproxen......was he right???
