Q: my doctor has given me the choice of taking nucynta 50mg. or oxycodone 15mg. for my chronic low-back, leg pain.

I had a discectomy at L5- S1 level of my low back,a rod and screwes were put in. That was july of 2011. my pain is constant and all but unbearable and he said it could take up to 2 more years for my back to heal. which of these medications would give me the most relief? My pain level stays between 8-10.

Several studies have looked at this two drugs. One study that looked at osteoarthritis patients found that nucynta was more effective for more patients and that people on it had lower gastrointestinal side effects than those who were on oxycodone.

That said, there is great variability in how people react to pain drugs...and you could react better to oxycodone...

It sounds, by the way, like you had a spinal fusion? Rods and screws are usually used in spinal fusions - at least to my understanding and in some people spinal fusions can take several years to fully heal from.

Whatever you had, I hope you feel better soon.
