Q: im seeking for pain management without drugs.. where do i go from there?

im seeking for pain management without drugs. where can i go from there???

Im sick and tired of using drugs to ease pain, Its not good for anyone to begin with.

I need to seek out a clinic or some type of alternative  program to minimize pain and perhaps make it better by recieving massages, acupuncture, acupressure, homeopathy, anything easter medicine, including yoga.

I need some info that Workmans comp will pay for, such as going to rehab or some type of weaning off drugs.

I have no strong income, only that of is SSI, and workmans compensation on bi weekly.

Which isnt enough to get me anywhere with alternative medicine, as i have noted above.

HELP!!!

Im trying to find a way to get in for free to clean up and heal in any of those alternatives that W.C. would NOT provide!

I ve struggled with them to do any of those recommended alternatives.

They refused to offer for any of those for me to recuperate in the most natural way possible.

Sincerely Yours,

Renata

I think alternative forms of pain management are good idea; some are very cheap (free) and you don't have worry about side effects that medication can bring. Particularly for people who don't have much money mindfulness stress reduction exercises such as meditation and progressive muscle relaxation can be very helpful.

John Kabat Zinn, a Ph.D. developed a program called mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) in the 1990's for people for whom pain medications do not work. It would be unrealistic to suggest that these therapies can take your pain away but they can certainly help you manage it better and enable you to have a better quality of life. They have been and are the focus of scientific studies. Numerous programs are offered around the country

Dr. Zinn's program is used at over 200 hospitals and clinics. Here's some information on one program (http://www.mindfullivingprograms.com/whatMBSR.php).  You don't need to do the program to get the benefits; you can get Dr. Zinn's book,  "Full Catastrophe Living"  (a good title for people in  pain!) at a good price on Amazon. com. Everything you need is in  there.

Good luck with your search.

Hi, I understand exactly how you feel.  I had the best insurance you could get, and then my son got into a auto accident,  I had to quite my job to stay home and take care  of him.  He has brain damage.  Because I have no insurance my doctor says I can't afford any of the good drugs for Fibro.  He just writes me perscriptions for pain meds and sleeping pills.  I can't afford any other treatment.  I'm sick of pain pills too.  I have tryed to go without them a couple of times,  but it hurts so bad I can't move.  I have a disabled husband and a seven year old,  I have to keep moving.  I wonder if getting in a study would be a good thing?  If I come up with any help i'll let you know.  I just wanted you to know I understand and I know what you mean.

I just wanted to send a comment your way. I read your statement and re-read it and didn't think you were being judgemental at all (according to someone who responded to your question). You simply said [you are tired of being on pain meds. No body should be in this much pain in the first place to have to be on them]. At least that's what I took from it. Of course nobody should have to be on pain meds, if this life was perfect we wouldn't be, but it's not. For those of us (myself included) that need to be on pain meds to function understand that we don't want to be on them. I myself would love to be able to find an alternative to pain meds. I'm sure we all would. To the person that took offense to this question shouldn't feel like it was an attack or even feel like it was a passed judgement. We're all in the same boat on this website. We have a lot of pain and are pretty much at our wits end and have no other options. (Most of) Our family and friends don't fully understand unless they too are in pain. Unless you feel constant pain everyday nobody could possibly even try to understand how we feel. I know sometimes when things are said (or typed) it could be taken the wrong way but I don't think there was any outward judgements thrown at anyone in particular or even at anyone in general. I was just going to pass through and not say anything but it was bothering me thinking someone could be upset because of this misunderstanding. If I am wrong on this whole thing, I'm sorry I mettled. I hope you all have a blessed day!
