Q: therapy is not stopping my neck pain, what should I do?

I have arthristis in my back and neck, a herniated disc in my lower back, a touch of scoliosis and 3 pinched nerves(1-lower back, 2-neck). I am in therapy, I have done 15 sessions and I have 9 more to go. My neck, head, right eye(when I blink), shouler, and arms are still hurting. I keep tellling the chiropractor, He will do different things that help the pain for a while but than the pain comes right back. Tomorrow is my 16th visit and I am embarrassed to tell him that I am still in pain. I am thinking about telling him that tomorrow will be last vist so that I can go to a neurologist or something. Two weeks ago my head and neck was hurting, I felt sick, dizzy when I stood up, that night I got up to go to the bathroom I had had loose bowels when I was sleep, I did not tell him because I was embarrassed.

Run, don't walk, away from that chiropractor. Anyone who has periods of dizziness and loose or incontinent bowels needs to be evaluated for cervical spinal cord injury and/or vascular abnormalities that would effect the upper cervical cord and/or brain.

Tomorrow, you should call your nearest neurologist or physiatrist for a thorough evaluation.

After the evaluation, when you are safely cleared to return to therapy, find a fellow in the AAOMPT to treat you.

Do not be embarassed. Do not be blindly loyal to a person who might be causing more harm than good. Simply, call to cancel all remaining appointments and find a better pathway for you. Nothing personal, just look out for you.
