Q: I have been on high doses of Oxycontin and Lyrica for three years. Never abused, never get high

from the medication although it makes me sick, and short term memory loss.  I am very afraid that because of tolerance the medication is not working as well.  I do not want to go to higher doses or morphine.  What do I do?

Talk to your doctor about rotating to different drugs that are also effective for nerve pain. An interesting combination that has worked well for some of my patients is methadone and Tramadol. Both of these drugs are very effective for treating nerve pain like Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS/ RSD). In fact, with this combination, you may be able to reduce the Lyrica dose and regain your memory.

Talk to your doctor. With open communications, solutions can be found that will work for you.
