Recently I have been experiencing a radiating burning sensation in the inner portion of my lower left leg. There doesn't seem to be any particular time of day when it occurs and I am usually lying down or sitting when it occurs. Any ideas as to what could be causing it?

sounds very very likely it is the sciatic nerve, see a DR they can fix it.
