Q: Hi, I have been on vicadine(hydrocodone) 10/650 for the past 8 years 6 times a day for a severe back injury and nerve damage

Hi, I have been on vicadine(hydrocodone) 10/650 for the past 8 years 6 times a day for a severe back injury and nerve damage.,but my body has just about become immune to them now, I asked my dr. if there was something else he could put me on instead of the vicadin that would help the pain more, he said the only thing he could try was percocet which for some reason gives me horrible headaches but the vicadin never did and they are so similar plus they both have aceamitphine in them,so i was surprised that the percosets would give me such bad headaches, I also worry about the amount of acetomeophine i am puttin in my body everyday,I am at the maximum amt with the ciadin at 4000 mg a day. I was wondering if I asked him about oxycontin if since it is just straight ocycontin jus maybe it wouldnt cause me to get headaches.,it makes no sense to me though hat vicadin with acetametphine doesnt give me headaches but percosets also wih acetomeophine does give me headahes. I have already tried morphine pills, and that really did not even help the pain as much as the vicadin .8 years on vicadin is a very long time expecailly at 6  (10/650's) a day. What are your thoughts? I am desperate here. I am also very worried about my liver even though I get bloodwork done every 3 months to check it. Thanks everyone.

That is alot of acetaminophen..

I agree methadone is a good option. The problem is that some doctors just won't touch it while other doctors love it. My girlfriend has major pain issues and one of her doctors prefers it while another wouldn't prescribe it.

Methadone has significantly less addictive properties and has shown to be quite an effective pain reliever and there's no acetaminophen involved.

Percocet is oxycodone plus acetaminophen. The fact that you get headaches from it suggests it is the oxycodone so pure oxycodone may not work.

I would make a strong push for methadone. Good luck!

You may want to ask about methadone.
