Can chrondomalacia be long term? I have had it for about 1 year now.

I am in the Army and will be going for a medical board to see if I can stay in. I was diagnosed with chrondomalacia in August of 2007. But I have been experiencing the pain since Feb. of 2007. It had just gotten worse, physical therapy does not work, and it is now affecting my other knee as well as my hip and my lower back. I had a bucket tear of the meniscal cartilage as well. I was told this will be long term and it might be reoccurring as well. Can you please tell me if this will ever get better or is this something that I might have to deal with for life? Also, could this be the result of a sports injury that occurred 13 years ago?

Hi there - My answer isnt what youre hoping for i would say but - ive had chrondomalacia in both knees for over 10 years now and it is now at the stage where nothing helps the pain at all.  My physio said that some people have this condition for a few months and then it never recurs but i am unlucky that it is with me all the time.

Hope youres clears sooner rather than later.
