Q: Can Gout Affect In Your Arms Hand Over Shoulders And Back

I'm asking this question for my mom. She is having terrible pain in her right fore-arm and has been for several days. She is a diabetic and has PAD, COPD, and arthritis.  She is 77 years old.  Thanks.

Gout usually effects the big toe but the problem, increased uric acid levels, is systemic and gout can effect many joints in the body. Before you self-diagnose your mother, though, be sure to get her to the doctor. He/she should be able to properly diagnose the cause of your mothers pain. Good luck!
