Hi,
after many years of living with fibromyalgia, I would first advise to try the muscle relaxers first, as the narcotics should be used when other things don't give enough relief. For me, I have to use both to get enough relief, as do many others, but for someone who's just be diagosed with fibromyalgia, I'd seriously try the muscle relaxers and over the counter medications before using narcotics, for the longer you can avoid the narcotics and build up a tolerance to them, the better off you'll be. Sadly, some people's pain warrants narcotics right to start, so I'd advise a good sympathetic pain management doctor and always take the least amount of medication necessary to get enough relief. I wish so much over the counter medications would give me enough relief, but they are all but a total waste of time as they give no noticable pain relief at all; but, some people find it gives enough, or partial relief and that is great, for although I have to take a lot of prescription pain medications, I wholeheartedly recommend taking the least amount of medication you can that gives effective pain control, for over the years, my tolerance to pain meds is very high and it takes some of the more stronger narcotics to give me any sanity from this pain that all but never stops. I've heard from many that have tried some illegal substances that have greatly helped they're pain; but, I've always been legal and as long as I can get some legal help, I'd never consider doing anything illegal. No one should suffer needlessly and I sincerely hope and pray you find the right sympathetic doctor who will help you find the relief you need using the least amount of medications; but, there is no reason for you to suffer needlessly when they're are safe and effective medications out there that the doctor's can use to safely manage your pain. The key is to find the right doctor who is not DEA shy about prescribing the necessary medications should your pain not respond to lesser medications or therapies. I wish you nothing but the best and if I can help in any way, you can always feel free to email me or just vent some. God bless, Marak Savage/inspectorgadget1956@aol.com
