Q: Does Concerta Affect Your Brain Long Term?

I had a stroke and experienced numerous deficits afterward. Specifically, I had trouble focusing and concentrating, delayed speech, and word finding issues, and inability to multitask, as well as others.  My neurologist prescribed Concerta, for my concentration and focusing issues.  My ability to concerntrate and focus has improved, but I have had some sideffect.  I have become mildly depressed,  I have extreme angy outbursts, I am very impatient (e.g. can't bear to hear anyone's thoughts to completion), I become frustrated when driving, I have lost several romantic relationships due to my anger issues. So, what I want to know is will Concerta and (its side effects) continue to effect my brain  long term.  I don't want to continue to have these side effects after I go off it.

I couldn't find any information on this. Concerta can cause facial tics -which may continue after the medication has been discontinued but I couldn't find any information on the irritability issues. Your physician might have a better idea. Be sure to consult with her/him when you go off it; Concerta can cause withdrawl problems. Good luck!
