Q: I'm not getting adequate pain relief from my 1-2 daily 30mg. morphine tabs. What would be suitable, effective substitute pain med? I have a history of CAD. Pain is chronic LBP.

Diagnosis is degenerative disc disease, bulging discs at L4/L5, L5/S1. I've had two surgeries; one took care of sciatic pain, the other did nothing. Codeine, Percodan, and Percocet make me itch. Is there any pain med that doesn't cause drowsiness? Cost is an issue.
