what are the considerations of taking alcohol? it for terrible back pain
In general tylenol should not be taken with hydrocodone; tylenol's active ingredient is acetaminophen and hydrocodone 5-500 contains alot of acetaminophen (500 mgs.). Too much acetaminophen can torch your liver (permanently). The highest amount of acetaminophen a healthy person should take in a day is 4,000 mgs. Overdoses of acetaminophen containing drugs are the single largest cause of acute liver failure.
Always check with your doctor if you want to add another acetaminophen containg drug to one you're already taking.
Even if you're in pain you should also absolutely not take alcohol with either tylenol or hydrocodone. Alcohol further stresses the liver - something you really need to avoid doing when you're taking these drugs.
It sounds like hydrocodone is not working well for you. Please inform your physician if this is so; some drugs work better for some people than others and there are non-drug options that may be helpful as well. Good luck!
