Q: Where can my pain physician go to find out the legality of prescribing Suboxone for chronic pain.

I have been a chronic pain patient for about 10 years. My former pain physician started prescribing me Suboxne about 2 years ago. I am currently changing to a new Physician and she is qualified to prescribe Suboxone for addiction. She wants to find the legality of off label prescribing Suboxone for pain. I read on the DEA website once that any qualified physician can prescribe any schedule 2,3,4,or 5 for the treatment of pain, but now I can`t find it at the site. I hope that you can help me find the info for her.Thanks.

All suboxone prescribers can get answers to difficult questions and situations through the buprenorphine mentoring network . This network of doctors was created to establish nationwide communication about the Suboxone product. Proper communications and clinical judgement will insure the continued safe use and availablity of Suboxone.Your doctor might find a mentor to be very helpful in this situation.
