A MEDICATION FOR SLEEP AND WEIGHT LOSS
LOSING WEIGHT AND STILL GET SOME SLEEP.A FEW DAYS AGO I ASKED ABOUT OR FOUND BY ACCIDENT A MEDICATION THAT YOU TAKE WHEN YOU GO TO BED.SO THAT YOU CAN SLEEP WELL.AS I HAVE SEVERE SLEEP APNEA AND GET LITTLE REST AS IT IS.THERE WAS A MEDICATION I CAME UPON WHILE LOOKING UP INFO FOR OTHERS AND NOW I HAVE LOST IT.I THINK IT STARTED WITH A P.BUT IT WAS NOT PAXIL OR PROZAK.IT WAS A MEDICATION I HAD NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE.FOR SOME REASON I HAVE GAINED ABOUT 30 LBS FROM LYRICA.I QUIT IT OVER 2 YEARS AGO BUT THE WEIGHT REMAINS.I AM NOW TAKING FOR SLEEP 2 XANAX,1CLONOPIN AND 25 MGS.AND HYDROXYZINE HCL 25 MGS.I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET AS MUCH AS 4 CONSECTUTIVE HOURS OF SLEEP ON THIS AND THAT IS LUCKY.USUALLY ONLY 2 CONSECUTIVE HOURS IS THE NORM.YES I HAVE HAD 2 SLEEP STUDIES AND THE CPAP HURTS MY C-SPINE THAT IS HERNIATED WITH BONE SPURS.I TRIED 3 DIFFERENT MASK.TO NO AVAIL.I AM SEEING MY PSYCHIATRIST TODAY AND WANTED TO ASK HIM ABOUT IT.I HAVE BEEN GOING TO HIM FOR 18 YEARS AND WORKED WITH HIM AT MAYO CLINIC.HE IS A GOOD DOCTOR.HE WORKS WITH ME.I ALWAYS TELL HIM THE COMPLETE TRUTH ABOUT EVERYTHING I TAKE.I DO NOT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO KEEP THINGS FROM THEIR THERAPIST.THIS UNDERMINES THE VERY REASON YOU ARE THERE.WHEN IT IS DAY TIME I AM SO SLEEPY.BUT LATE AT NIGHT I FEEL WIRED BUT TIRED.AND I WAKE UP THAT WAY.THE ONLY RELIEF FROM PAIN IS SLEEP.I NOW KNOW WHY THEY USE SLEEP DEPRIVATION AS TORTURE BECAUSE IT IS.DO ANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT MEDICATION I AM REFERRING TO.SOMETHING THAT LETS YOU SLEEP BUT HELPS WITH WEIGHT REDUCTION.I AM A SMALL PERSON.5'3".
I WEIGHED 112 LBS UNTIL I WAS 35,I QUIT SMOKING 3 YEARS AND WENT UP TO 125LBS WHERE I STAYED UNTIL I HAD TO HAVE ALL MY TEETH PULLED AND ORAL IMPLANTS PUT IN WHICH GOT STAPH AND YEAST INFECTION IN THEM.SO I HAVE CLIMBED TO 158 LBS.MORE THAN I WEIGHED AT THE HIGHEST WEIGHT DURING PREGNACY WAS 139 1/2 LBS.THEY SAY IT IS BECAUSE I CANNOT EAT PROPERLY.I HAVE NO APPETITE.BUT I DO TRY AND EAT ONCE A DAY.THE IMPLANTS AND CLICK ON DENTURES HAS TURNED OUT TO BE A HORROW STORY OF MY LIFE.I DO NOT SUGGEST IT .MOST PEOPLE I TALKED TO AFTERWARDS HAD MUCH THE SAME RESULTS AS I HAVE.I LOOK 87 INSTEAD OF 58.THEY ARE PAINFUL TO WEAR.I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DENTIST YES THE TONGUE IS A MUSCLE AND I SHOULD WEAR THEM.BUT WITH IN 2 HOURS AND MY TMJ IS SCREAMING LOUDER THAN ANYTHING.I AM SO UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS WEIGHT.I HAVE HAD A COLONOSCOPY CT/ABDOMEN,ENDOSCOPY,ALL TEST FOR GI PROBLEMS.SO THAT IS NOT THE CULPRIT.MY PSYCH SEEMS TO THINK I NEED MY GALL BLADDER OUT AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH HE IS A BETTER INTERNAL MEDICINE DOCTOR THAN ANYONE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO.I TRUST HIM ALL THE WAY.DO YOU KNOW WHAT PILL I AM REFERRING TO.I WOULD APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE I SEE HIM TODAY.AND I CANT FIND THE PAPER IT WAS ON.THANK-YOU. JO
I've searched and searched but haven't yet found a medication that matches your description. If I come across it, I'll certainly let you know (although I'm afraid it's not likely to be before your appointment today). And if you find it, I hope you'll let us know.

Hi Jo, I'm familiar with Provigil and know some people who take it. They say it really does increase your energy. I hadn't heard anything about weight loss, but I guess it makes sense – if you have more energy, you'll be more active and burn more calories. You're right, you really do need to take it early in the day because it's primary purpose is to promote wakefulness.
I know what you mean about memory loss. I worry about myself sometimes, too. At this point in my life, I'm not sure how much is due to the fibromyalgia and how much is just because I'm getting older.
You're so fortunate to have a husband who is supportive. Sadly, so many people don't have a good support network. I, too, consider myself blessed to have family and close friends who have stood by me and been so supportive. It makes such a big difference!
I hope you're having a good day. Thanks for keeping in touch. – Karen

Hi Karen,I had a bit of difficulty getting on site last night. The Rx I was searching for I asked my psychiatrist about. And he came up with something I am not sure if it is the same thing I meant. But he said Provigil will help people who suffer with sleep apnea and as a side effect would provide some weight loss.He put the strength at 200 mgs.But it is something you take during early morning hours.I told him I was suffering from severe chronic fatigue. He knows all my other health issues. And I asked him to remember that what ever he would give me to give me more energy could not be something that would interfere with my sleep.
So I said weight loss, fatigue, and sleep apnea. What do you suggest. He said Provigil. But I do not know yet if it works.I must get copies about my sleep studies first. Then he said see a neurologist and I am not sure if he said eeg or emg.
I am frightened lately at my memory loss.I have a wonderful support system with my husband. But He works so hard and such long hours. It has been 11 years with chronic acute pain in some areas. And when oh when will there be something to help.I take sufficient pain meds. Why do I still live in such pain?Today I have to call a doctor about severe bladder spasm.I also have chronic bladder problems.I have been taking the rx for the pain. The one that colors your urine.
But here it is Monday morning and I cannot find the strength to see the doctor if they want me to come right away it would be difficult for me to get there. So I though I would share that with you and see what you thought. Most sincerely Jo
