Q: need some advice on makeing a pain chart.

i could sure use some help please. i came up with an idea that could help me and my doctor the way i use my pain meds . i was hopeing someone may have some insight on how i could go about setting it up

i use oxycodone hcl 30 mg every 4hrs for my pain. and i wanted to make a time sheet with dates ,times and reasons i took a pain pill. i know it sounds crazy but it seems like im useing a little more pills that i should , my pain has becomming almost unbareable to stand and it always seems like 4 hrs is a life time away for my next dose.

i get about 2 hrs sleep a night if im lucky enough not to get woke up with this GOD awful pain so it seems like im constantly going for releif which only seems to last just about 4 hrs maybe  a little less, i only wish there was a pill that would fight longer and when i felt pain comming in between i would have a breakthrough pain pill to fight it. i need to get sleep so bad more than just 2 hrs i feel so drained and i always feel like im in constant battle with my body fighting pain. can anyone relate>??

so, would anyone gave any ideas as what kind of a set up i can do so that my doctor doesnt think im just takeing them more than i should ? i would be very greatful..

                                      thank you Rob...

I don't know about the pain chart but this sleep:pain cycle is a vicious one; pain can disrupt sleep which in turn causes more pain - which disrupts sleep further - and, of course, causes more pain; its a vicious cycle. Check out the URLbelow about the sleep pain problem http://www.sleepfoundation.org/site/c.huIXKjM0IxF/b.2422621/k.8B2A/Pain_and_Sleep.htm

They talk about sleep hygiene (http://www.umm.edu/sleep/sleep_hyg.htm) I don't know if you've tried that but relaxation exercises before sleep can help you attain deeper and more restful sleep. If you're looking for alternative methods of fighting pain I recommend John Kabat Zinn's book "Full Catastrophe Living".

Good luck.

There is a good Pain Diary provided by painawareness.org that you can download:  http://www.painawareness.org/PainDiary.pdf

You can either print out and use this diary or use it as a guide to help you design your own chart.

Hope this helps.
