How do I get relief from Neuropathy Pain?

BadVibrations

I have Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy from my neck down.  The pens and needles feeling is there 24/7.   So is the burning pain.  The pain is worse in my hands and feet.  Is there anyway to easy the pain.  I have low blood pressure, mitral valve prolaspe, restless leg syndrome, depression and probably chronic fatigue syndrome.  My pain is usually about a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale.  During flare ups it is a 12.  It gets unbearable at times.  Please, I need some relief.  The pain pills just aren't working.  Lyrica didn't help me at all.  I also take 300mg of Gabapentine 4 times a day.  I don't know how high a dose I can take on the Gabapentine.  It does help some with the tingly.  Without it I can't even stand for my clothes to touch my body.  With the Neuropathy over my entire body I also wonder if a TENS unit would help.

Hi,

I have nerve pain in my right leg and foot and I tell you nothing worked until I tried Lyrica that worked like a charm, within 20 minutes (okay maybe that is in my head) the pain is gone.  It's weird I can still feel everything but it seems to be underneath and doesn't hurt I don't know how to explain it but it works. I don't know if you are a candidate for Lyrica with your other problems but ask your doc.  I was also using a TENS unit and that worked great for the pain it would take it away for about 48 hours.  I have a spinal cord tumor that is crushing the nerves in my legs and will eventually take the use of them.  The TENS unit worked great until about three weeks ago when my right leg just gave out and I couldn't feel it or move it, luckily it was transient and the feeling came back now though the burning, pins and needles actually mine feels like my leg is sitting on an electric fence is all up and down my leg and for some reason the TENS unit doesn't work anymore.  But those are my ideas I hope they help.

I'm having the same problems and so is my sister.  We have been to Neuro's, Rhemothologist, Arthritis and now Pain Specialist.  I even changed primary's because no one would help or even believed me.

I was on Lyrica for Fybromyligia and my Rhemotologist did not believe me.  The only thing that helps me is Gabapinten and pain meds.

It's frustrating knowing that no one can help with chronic pain!  I joined this website to find out about all the nerve blocks I've had.  Unfortunately, I'm not doing anymore for a while they don't last.  Plus I'm a care taker and until my mother has somewhat leveled off, there is no need for me to have other treatments with my Pain Specialist who is great!

So the question about Neuropathy pain is simple to trust your body and the meds your doctor prescribes.  I have a cabinet full of different meds, and trust me I've spent a bundle.  I've narrowed mine down to (2) and I'm just going to keep on going.

I trust you will get some relief soon!

I have suffered with Peripheral Neuropathy since I was 15-years-old (39-years-old now). I was struck by ground lightning (where ligtning stricks the ground a distance away and travels through the ground). I have tried all sorts of medications and therapies over the years. TENS was extreme torture, causing more injury and months of recooperation. So, if your Peripheral Neuropathy was caused by electric injury, I would NOT recommend this type of therapy. The medication they have me on, the only thing that has helped at all, it 1200 mg of Gabapentin every eight hours. It is VERY important to keep the medication evenly spaced - much more effective that way. This treatment reduces the constant pins-n-needles to a lower "static" sensation. However, on days that storms are coming in, I have to resort to Hydrocodone to control the severe pain.

I have nuropithy in both my feet and legs, with this it makes it hard to walk on a daily basis. The only thing I found that would help is gabbipenton { nuroton } in the generic form. Without this I dont think I could walk much at all. My doc has me on 1200 mil. a day and says I can take up to 1800 mil. But be careful to the side effects. I have some friends that have taken it and don't like it at all and I dont want to live without it  Good luck.    JohnLaughing
