This is not my area of expertise, but from what I could find out, a minor meniscus tear should heal in two to three weeks.  I couldn't find a time estimate for more serious tears – probably because it would likely vary with each individual case.

The recommended treatment includes:

• Avoid putting weight on the affected leg.  Rest as much as possible and consider using crutches to take the pressure off your knee.

• Apply an ice pack to the knee for 15 - 20 minutes every couple of hours for the first few days, then as needed.

• Talk to your doctor about physical therapy and/or orthotic devices that might help strengthen and stabilize your knee.
