Q: Why Do I Have A Sharp Pain In My Stomach

I have a very sharp pain fading in and out from my stomach. It is located approximately 2 inches above my navel. I have been having this pain for 4 days and it has also been accompanied by diarrhea with a gelatinous substance in the stool. I am afraid to eat anything and my stomach looks so bloated, I could be mistaken for a floatation device! I've taken Gas-X, alkaselzer, and pepto with no relief. What could it be? Surely I could have expelled gas by now, right?

There are lots of things that can cause pain, diarrhea, and bloating in the stomach area. It could be gas, it could be irritable bowel syndrome, it could be something else. You might want to check out the "Check a Symptom' box on Health Central and see what it tells you about this complex area of the body but if this problem is persisting what you really need to do is see a doctor. Good luck!
