Hi I have been on Methadone for over 10 yrs and I think it is a very good pain medicine but it is very addictive just like any other narcotic and you have to be monitored very carefully because it is a long acting medicine which means it doesnt leave your system for a very long time so if you take more than prescribed you could easily have breathing trouble and possibly die if you didnt do what you are supposed to take. I actually got a pain pump and I couldnt get used to either morphine or dilaudid so I went back on Methadone and am very happy I did. I am fused in my cervical spine and have muscular dystrophy and have numerous other problems and I think it is very important that you work with a pain clinic no matter what meds you take. I wish you the best.
