My daughter is 7 yrs old. She has been showing some of the same signs as I had when first dignoised with fibroNerve pain in her legs , hips and arms at night. The uncomfortableness in your own skin. Legs kicking and jerking in her sleep. Disruptive rest. Is it possible at her age that this could be leading to fibro. I had these symptoms for as long as i can remember as a child i just thought I was weird or crazy so I never told anyone til i was older. Can you please help us. I dont want her to live with the pain I have for so many years. Thank you, Roxanne Bell
Unfortunately it is. Fibromyalgia does appear to run in some families. The only possible consolation I can think of is that your daughter may be coming down with this disease at a time that is a lot of research interest. While physician support can be pretty poor fibromyalgia appears to have gotten over the hump with the research community a couple of years ago.
Just in the last year or so three drugs, I believe, were approved for the condition. One of those drugs, Lyrica, turned out to be a runaway hit for the pharmaceutical company that produced it. The pharmaceutical industry is well aware that there are lot of patients out there that need help. This can only be encouraging for your daughter's long-term health. She's entering into a medical world that is vastly different from the one you unfortunately grew up in.
Keep engaged with Health Central to be up to date on all the latest findings regarding FM http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pain/fibromyalgia.html
Find a good doctor and see if he\she can find something to help her. Getting a good nights sleep is of course essential. It sounds like she might have Restless Leg Syndrome which is not uncommon in FM. That could be something to focus on.
Meanwhile consider joining national support organizations such as the National Fibromyalgia Association so that they can lobby effectively for yours and your daughters health.
Good luck!

Hi Roxanne,
Cort gave you some good information. I'd just like to offer one additional word of encouragement. FM experts have found that when juvenile fibromyalgia is diagnosed and treated early, the long-term prognosis is much better than for those of us who were not diagnosed until adulthood. Although I'm sorry to hear that your daughter may also have FM, I'm glad that you recognized the signs and are able to get her help early. – Karen
