has i am currently in severer lower back pain i am taking morphine can you can addicted to this
First, it's important to understand the difference between addiction and dependence. When someone is addicted to a drug, they usually experience a "high" when they take it, need to keep taking more to maintain that euphoric feeling, crave the drug, and use it compulsively. As a general rule, people who take opioid medications (like morphine) for severe pain do not become addicted. (The exception is people who are extremely vulnerable or have a history of addiction problems.) They do, however, usually become physically dependent on the medication. This simply means that if they stop taking the drug abruptly, they will experience withdrawal symptoms. Should you decide you want to quit taking morphine, you should taper off of it gradually under your doctor's supervision. Physical dependence can also occur with other medications, like sedatives and antidepressants to name a couple.

HI lollypop, Yes you do get addicted to morphine. I also suffer lower back pain with my discs out of alignment & worn down, I'm only 47 years old & morphine will be the last resort as a painkiller for when I'm older, at the moment I take panadeine forte, diazapan, tramal SR 200mg, all of these have the potential to become addictive. Since I was 15 I have been taking panadeine forte for migraines yes I am addicted to the codeine in this product, have spoken to my doctor & also to a pain specialist but I have to take them to help with my chronic pain. Talk to your doctor & he/she may suggest something that may help you with your pain, explain that you do not want to be addictive to morphine. The problem with chronic pain is that we must take very strong potent medication to help relieve the pain. Goodluck
