Fibromyalgia..now what?
I have just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia along with RA...what can I expect? What can I do about the constant pain?
Hello Terri....having FM is not the end of the world....learn all you can about FM...and get a good doctor who treats FM...be sure and ask before making an appointment...as you might know, some doctors think FM is all in our heads...but we know different...FM is real as cancer or a heart attack...it seems though that the medical schools do not teach FM to the students and so some doctors do not believe FM exists...go to the library to check out some books on FM...or google it on the computer and you will find lots of info...it takes trial and error to find something to help FM...and this takes time.
No two people are alike...I take vitamins and supplments and use a heat pad to help me...there are some days though that regardless of what I do or take, nothing helps.
Good luck.

Whats next for you is checking out the options and making sure your doctor is up on them. Lots of doctors know of FM but not that many are really up on treating it. There are a wide array of ways to treat FM from drugs like lyrica to sleep medication to the relaxation exercises to lifestyle management. It will probably take time to figure out what works best for you.
Some good sources of information are the FM section on Health Central http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pain/fibromyalgia.html , the National Fibromyalgia Association http://www.fmaware.org/site/PageServer and books - an excellent book by Sharon Ostaleki recently came out.
Good luck with everything.
