Hi campsoup: I just signed up to this forum & began reading before introducing myself, & the first post I read is a post on a pain symptom I've experienced for over 20 years... never to find anyone whos experienced the same electrical shocks, or find any doctor (Neurologist, Orthopod, Veterinarian *grin*, ect, etc..) to give me a solid diagnosis/ treatment. For that, I say "Thank You" for sharing your experience.
For me, the pain is also in my lower legs.. I'm a Bi Lateral amputee with around 7 inches of my legs below the knees. I know our situations might seem somewhat different, but please read this whole thing because I believe I found the answer to controlling my electrical shocks. When my shocks start, they usually start out little jolts I barley notice, & within a half hour turn into huge jolts that (if i'm sleeping) knocked me right out of bed screaming in agony. I don't know if it will work for you, but it can't hurt to try it. About a year ago, I don;t know why but It came to me... the last times i got those shocks, I had been sweating all day, & not drinking a lot of water. So i asked my wife if she'd bring me acouple large containers of water, & I just started drinking all of it. These shocking sessions usually last two or three hours.. with off & on Jolts.. but after drinking one of those containers, the jolts subsided. By the time i finished the second container, they quit. At that point though.. I wasn't convinced I had found the answer to stopping my hell on earth. But.. everytime its happened since (or started to happen).. I start loading up on water, & the symptoms go away before getting severe. Like I said.. i don't know if my cure for my shockly situation will work for you, but there it is..
FYI. I had a childhood disease... or should I say I had a disease (meningoccal meningitis) as a child, which did a lot of damage to my body, so I've had pain most of my 46 years. Some pains came because of the disease.. some came from having different surgeries, & some.. i have no idea where they came from.. These shocking episodes, I've had since the age of 20.. and feel blessed to have been able to find my own treatment. One Doctor, years ago, wanting to put me on Amitriptyline (anti depressant used for lots of other things). I don't remember his reasoning.. and i did go on them for a while with no positive results.
I hope you find your answers, & I'll keep my prayers for you, to getting to that. I for one know how painful those are. I hope you don't take my suggestion as minimizing your pain.. i know water isn't probably what you expected. I was surprised myself when i found it worked for me.
Good Luck
