Help w/ Finding New Pain Dr
Hi-
I've posted prior about chronic pain; I've been suffering threw a laundry list of conditions, ailments, and diseases, all exacerbating each other because I am under medicated and on the wrong medications. My last pain management appointment, last week, did not go well at all. CLEARLY, the Dr and I are not on the same page. He's the wrong Dr for me. He does not listen, he changes (or forgets) our treatment plan, options, and how I will take prescribed meds, each visit to the next. He agrees I need long acting narcotics, then changes his mind. He's moody and a yeller. I don't pay for abuse. Though he has any and all my records, test results, imaging results, surgery reports, copies of ER visits, he still only prescribes percocet or Lorcet. Yes, it's time to find another Dr. But I do not know how at this point. It's exahausting and too costly and time consuming, to be refered from one Dr to the next. I've been at it for years. I understand most Dr's want a quick fix and on to the next patient. I don't know where to go from here. Now, I'm too exhausted, physically and mentally, sleepless, and in too much pain to even open my providers list and start again. We all know oxy and hydrocodone are short lived and easy to build tolerance. I am lying in bed with horrible, teeth chattering pain. The 750 mg of Tylenol in the Lorcet is a concerned as well. I expressed this to the Dr several times, who acts as though he doesn't hear me. I get it; he doesn't care. How do I chose the right Dr? I have been to 100's of Dr's. I've been in chronic pain for 15-20 years. The PCP refers me to a specailist, who refers me to pain management, who refers me to a surgeon, who refers me back to pain management, who refers me back to my PCP....I'm like a bad cold. I'm a wits end. Depressed? You better believe it. I have lost almost everything; work, friends, social life.....I have tried every alternative treatments, therapies, you name it; I've tried it, done it, or gave it a chance. I would consider myself a good patient, I'm on time, I don't cancel, I'm prepared with questions, I provide all records, I take any rx meds resposibly. I am truly crying out for help at this point.
the best i can do is call around and when you ask for a doctor say i'm on a pain managment and need a doctor who does this and make sure you do a history check on the doctor .. i'v learned my lessen and i'm still at it.. i just changed again .. and this doctor is about to loos me too.. keep trying and dont give up cause thats what they want...
